Sources in Agents
Sources give an agent reference material it can use while answering questions or completing tasks. Good sources are stable, relevant, and easy for the agent to read as text.
Best sources to add
Policies, procedures, and FAQs: use documents that describe the exact process the agent should follow.
Reference files: use clean PDFs, docs, spreadsheets, Markdown, text, CSV, or other supported file types that contain the information the agent needs.
Small, focused files: split very broad source material into narrower files when possible so the agent can retrieve the right context more reliably.
Current content: remove or replace outdated sources so the agent does not follow old instructions.
Source count and credit usage
Adding many large sources can increase the amount of context the agent needs to inspect and may increase credit usage or response time. Use only the sources the agent actually needs for its job, and review them periodically.
Images as sources
Avoid adding images as long-term agent sources when a text version would work. Images can be harder for agents to reference consistently and may use more credits with vision-capable models.
If an image contains important instructions, a screenshot, a diagram, or other reusable content, ask Chat to summarize the image into text first. Review the summary for accuracy, save it as a text or document file, and add that text file as the source instead.
If an agent ignores a source
Confirm the source is attached to the agent you are actually using.
Confirm the source is enabled and readable by the agent.
Ask the agent a direct question about the source to check whether it can retrieve the content.
Move critical instructions into the agent instructions if the source is only background context.
If the issue continues, include the agent link, source file name, chat link, timestamp, model, and a screenshot of the source settings when contacting Support.
